Though they will possibly never read these words, I am obliged to say "thanks" to a few authors whose works have both educated and inspired me. I'm not going to be melodramatic and say Andrew Beyers book Picking Winners changed my life, but I will take the opportunity right now to say it was a signpost to better times. I should also like to convey my gratitude to whoever donated their copy of Picking Winners to the Save The Children charity shop in Tring, for me to find. I should also thank Nick Mordin for his book Mordin On Time as he has put in a great deal of work to bring the Standard Times for the UK all-weather tracks as close to perfection as I believe they can be. Also Tom Ainslie for producing his landmark book Ainslie's Complete Guide To Thoroughbred Racing which empowered me to take the fundamentals of horse race handicapping and apply them myself, rather than relying on the opinions of others. A very special word for Scott Daniels, my friend and business partner, for putting up with me for longer than any sane individual should, and for helping me make my dream of publishing on the internet become a reality. Last but far from least, I must say "Thank you, and I love you forever" to my wife Sarah who has always supported my ideas, shared my hopes, dreams, and failures, and stood by me through thick and thin.
